![]() At only ten tracks, most fans may find their one complaint is that this collection is much too short. ![]() The album's opener, "Happy," easily bests most of the tracks hitting Top 40 airplay, while the title cut (and first single) is a breezy, fun anthem about the importance of the "simple" everyday "things" of life that are too easily taken for granted. Hardcore fans will remember the sentimental closer, "After the Fire," from Grant's 1997 appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Expanding her vocal horizons, the singer harks back to the days of moody torch singers with the romantic "Touch," and joins husband Vince Gill for the emotional "Beautiful," which focuses on the positive aspects in a relationship that wasn't meant to be. Grant testifies what it means to find God's grace and forgiveness in the gorgeous "Out in the Open," while pondering life's defining moments with "I Don't Know Why." Examining the faults and failings of choices made in life with "Innocence Lost," Grant speaks honestly about the tribulations that were publicly displayed in the media and the personal redemption that followed. Although one might argue that it is all a matter of the listener's interpretation, it's not hard to see the correlation between real life and the lyrics. While never one to shy away from expressing the deepest recesses of her soul, it is somewhat surprising how open Grant is in relating very recent and highly publicized events (starting with her divorce from singer Gary Chapman), depicting both the work it takes to find peaceful ground amidst difficult situations (the poignant and telling "Eye to Eye") and the fulfillment and joy experienced in discovering true love (the delightfully upbeat "Looking for You"). Producers Keith Thomas, Brown Bannister, and Wayne Kirkpatrick give Grant a wonderful blueprint to build from, which she takes full advantage of, gifting the listener with beautifully poetic music to revel in. Hit play below and get into Miguel’s new mellow vibe.After a painfully long six years since Amy Grant's last pop album (she released a collection of gospel hymns in 2002), the prolific singer/songwriter returns to the pop/rock fold with the candid and thoughtful Simple Things. While a little late for a summer anthem, “Sky Walker” is a nice mellow, carefree track that many will be happy to drink, smoke, party and kickback to. But then again, he might have been referring to Luther Campbell, which given the abundance of ladies in the video, he perfectly captured the spirit of. The only thing we don’t get is him cosplaying as Luke Skywalker. We’re then treated to a number of literal interpretations of the lyrics, including blatant marijuana usage, rapping on cop cars, bubble baths, birthday cakes and having fun with that one friend who has the audacity to fall asleep at the party. The clip opens with Miguel wearing a beret and holding a matador cape referencing the aforementioned opening line. ![]() Shot by esteemed director Little X, Miguel is loose and carefree. Travis Scott has a few cheeky lines himself, such as “I can f**k you with my chain / You should take a look, yeah / Come and catch a wave, take one out my cup, yeah.”įor the video, Miguel invites us over to his crib for little an intimate gathering between him and a few dozen of his closest friends. He lets you know from jump he’s not here for BS unless it’s partying and bulls**t, with the opening line, “Quick to dead the bull like a matador.” While not his most creative lyric, it works in context of the track and its very important mission of staying chill at all costs. Working with frequent collaborator Happy Perez, “Sky Walker” shows fans another side of Miguel that we haven’t seen before - the fun, carefree California dude. native rising above the haters, as he’s too busy living life for anyone to bring him down. ![]() His latest, “Sky Walker” featuring his "Waves" collaborator Travis Scott, finds the L.A. But judging by the first single from his upcoming untitled album, him being cool is part of his new vibe. He’s released a loosie here and there, but for the most part, he’s been keeping it cool. Singer, songwriter and SZA cover artist, Miguel has been threatening us with a new album for awhile now. ![]()
